For years, former Superior Court law clerks have talked about forming a Law Clerk Society of the Massachusetts Superior Court. Now, we are finally on our way!
On June 1, 2010, over 80 past and present law clerks attended a seminar entitled "Massachusetts Guide to Evidence -- What You Need to Know," hosted by the Flaschner Judicial Institute and the Social Law Library. Hon. Peter W. Agnes, Jr. and Hon. David A. Lowy, both of the Superior Court, discussed what practitioners need to know about the latest issue of the Massachusetts Guide to Evidence, issued by the Supreme Judicial Advisory Committee on Massachusetts Evidence Law. The panel discussion was moderated by Appeals Court Clerk, Joseph F. Stanton, and followed opening remarks from Superior Court Chief Justice Barbara A. Rouse and Robert J. Brink, Executive Director of the Social Law Library and Executive Vice President of the Flaschner Judicial Institute.
The seminar was followed by a reception at which the participants met up with old friends, reconnected with former colleagues, and made new connections. Everyone was excited by the prospect of a Law Clerk Society for the Superior Court. Much work remains to be done and organizers announced plans for a general meeting for all interested persons to take place in mid-July.
Thanks to everyone who helped with the event, including the panelists and speakers above, as well as the organizers: Elissa Flynn-Poppey (LC '00), Mintz Levin Cohn Ferris Glovsky and Popeo PC; Joseph Stanton (LC '94-'96), Appeals Court; Jennifer Sunderland (LC '08-'09), Supreme Judicial Court; and Romeo Camba (LC '94-'96), Superior Court.
