Kickoff Event: Superior Court Judges Offer Lessons from their First Year on the Bench

If you agree, please join us at our "2013-14 Kickoff Event: Superior Court Judges Offer Lessons from their First Year on the Bench," taking place on Tuesday, October 8, 2013, 5-7 pm, at the Boston Bar Association, 16 Beacon St., Boston, MA. Chief Justice Barbara J. Rouse will start the evening by sharing recent developments in the Superior Court. A distinguished panel of Superior Court judges -- Judge Mary K. Ames, Judge Brian A. Davis, Judge Shannon Frison, and Judge Paul D. Wilson – will share what they have learned about effective advocacy from their first year on the bench. Come learn about best practices and effective advocacy in the Superior Court from the perspective of judges who, not too long ago, were practicing attorneys themselves. Judge Bios:

Hon. Mary K. Ames - Before her appointment to the court in January 2013, Judge Ames had 30 years of litigation experience in both criminal and civil matters. She joined the Suffolk District Attorney's Office in 1982 as an Assistant District Attorney and became the Senior Trial Counsel and Deputy Chief of the Homicide Division. She left to begin her private practice in 1996, in which she maintained an active litigation practice that included serious felony trials as well as a wide variety of civil cases.

Hon. Brian A. Davis - Judge Davis joined the Superior Court in May 2013. Before then, he spent his entire legal career with the firm of Choate, Hall & Stewart LLP, as an associate from 1985 to 1992 and as a partner since 1993. His practice included complex commercial disputes, torts, product liability defense, fraud and insurance litigation, and corporate governance matters. Judge Davis served as chair of Choate's Litigation Department as well as chair of the the firm's Major Commercial Litigation Practice Group.

Hon. Shannon Frison - Judge Frison served as an officer and a lawyer in the United States Marine Corp, where she handled both criminal and civil litigation assignments. She also worked as a senior litigation associate at Dwyer and Collora and as a sole practitioner specializing in criminal defense, employment litigation, and military justice cases. She was appointed to the Boston Municipal Court in 2009, and then to the Superior Court in March 2013.

Hon. Paul D. Wilson - Judge Wilson has served on the Superior Court bench since September 2012. Before then, he served as a law clerk for the Hon. Orinda Evans at the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia, before joining the firm of Mintz, Levin, Cohn, Ferris, Glovsky and Popeo in 1982. Judge Wilson rose to become one of the senior partners of the firm, with an active litigation and pro bono practice.
