Report on Law Clerks Society’s First General Organizational Meeting

Thanks to everyone who attended the Law Clerks Society’s first organizational general meeting on July 21, 2010!

After receiving updates on efforts to date, the attendees’ first order of business was to decide how to go about achieving formal organizational status. After some discussion, the attendees unanimously voted to pursue recognition as a chapter of the Supreme Judicial Court Historical Society. A subcommittee was formed to develop the by-laws and mission statement and address other issues of membership and governance.

The attendees also recognized the need to continue to hold events to maintain the momentum from the Law Clerks Society’s evidence seminar and reunion event held on June 1, 2010. A subcommittee formed to start planning a September networking event and discuss additional events.

Finally, the attendees addressed the need to continue to grow the organization, for which nearly 150 past and present law clerks have already registered. Volunteers from various Superior Court law clerk “classes” have agreed to find and contact their former colleagues to invite them to join the organization. Ideally, we would like this outreach effort to involve former law clerks representing each year going back over several decades.

If you are interested in joining any of the above efforts, please send an e-mail to masslawclerks@gmail.com. Thanks!
